The Waynedale Green Alliance began with a plan to bring the community of Waynedale together by raising sustainable awareness and just plan saving money. In late 2007 April D. Langschied was recovering from brain surgery. There was a lot of time to reflect. What would be the best way to put to use the skills she had as a writer, marketer and organizer? What was the best course of growth for the future for her grandchildren?
The answer started a journey into the green movement that is sweeping the United States and world. First, she began to write articles in the local newspapers and websites about unique ways to go green. Then, she began to interview people all over the country about their contributions. After awhile she began to move out into the community and began distributing information and offering fundraising opportunities, such as Let's Go Green!
Then her son, Christopher, came back to Fort Wayne from Florida. A former United States Air Force meteorologist, Chris was thrilled with a new program his mother had developed The Green ABC's: An Alphabetical Journey Towards Sustainabiltiy. So, they teamed up and started to share their vision of a new green paradigm with other community acitivists.
In early 2009, Waynedale Green Alliance saw a demand for a Green Festival in the community. Huge cities like San Diego, Seattle, and Chicago had been having this type of festival for the last few years with phenomenal success. But, Fort Wayne.? Fort Wayne is the second largest city in Indiana- but as is well-known the state is lagging behind in sustainability issues. Not because of a lack of passion, but a lack of understanding and so with the shared cooperation of the Southwest Conservation Club and to benefit Community Harvest of Northeast Indiana, GreenFEST '09 became a reality.
It was a such a success that it has more than a little space on this site- but GreenFEST '09 served as a template for an event that was proclaimed the 1st Annual Green Festival in Fort Wayne by Mayor Tom Henry of the City of Fort Wayne.
The Waynedale Green Alliance, LTD, in cooperation with over 50 other organizations made the 1st Green Festival a reality-
And April & Chris? Well, they are working hard to bring every facet of green to the Fort Wayne community.
